Mimi Update - 10/30 and Yard Sale Information

Hi All!

Mimi called us midday and has been moved out of ICU! She had her shunt and staples removed and is now in the ‘step down’ care for a few days. She sounds better than even just a few days ago! She misses everyone and is so grateful for the prayers and support!

Speaking of support…

YARD SALE

We are collecting donations for our yard sale anytime that we are open! Bring things by and we will make sure they are priced to move and priced to help! Anything that doesn’t sell will be passed on to another non-profit for donation.

We are so excited for this event! Check out all the details in the yard sale post.

Mimi Update - 10/28

Mimi called both Liz and Victoria in the morning on 10/28. She, in true Mimi fashion, was trying to help us with coverage at the center!

She is doing very well, but admits that she still has a long way to go. They are testing how she will do without the shunt today, by clamping it. If she remains symptom free - no headaches or nausea - they will begin planning remove it, which is the next step in the process of getting to go home.

We are collecting donations for our yard sale fundraiser on November 9th! Please make sure to check out that post and volunteer to help! https://commongroundchildcare.org/mimi/2024/10/23/yard-sale-fundraiser-1192024

Miss Mimi - Health Update

10/24 UPDATE: Victoria and Liz saw Miss Mimi on Wednesday, October 22nd! She is doing well and was happy to see us! She even wanted us to bring some kids to see her. She will remain in the ICU for about 2 weeks and we will update everyone when we have more information!

10/21: We have some unfortunate, yet hopeful news. On Thursday evening Miss Mimi got sick and it was discovered that she had a brain aneurysm rupture. She was airlifted to Fairfax Hospital and underwent two successful surgeries - the first to drain fluid and the second to repair the aneurysm.

She was extubated on Saturday and is breathing on her own, talking, and eating. Her husband said “from nose to toes, she’s in perfect condition. Her brain just needs time to heal.”

She will be in Fairfax Hospital for at least the next two to three weeks, as she recovers.

How can you help:

  • We are in the process of putting a fundraiser together to help cover Mimi’s mounting expenses, so please be on the lookout for that.

  • We are going to have the kids draw photos and send videos to cheer Miss Mimi up while she is in the hospital

  • Keep Mimi in your thoughts and send her well wishes, prayers, and positive energy

We will be sharing the news, in an age appropriate way, with the kids at the center, as they have already felt her absence in just two open days.

If you have any questions, please reach out via an admin message.
