Inclement Weather Policy

At Common Ground Childcare, the safety of our children, families, and staff is our top priority. Our inclement weather policy is designed to provide clear guidance while balancing the need for reliable childcare.

  1. Decision-Making Process

    • We make our own decisions regarding inclement weather closures and delays, based on local weather conditions in Reston, Virginia.

    • Announcements regarding delays, closures, or early dismissals will be made via Brightwheel and the website as early as possible, while still trying to err on the side of “open.”

    • We will always follow, at minimum, the closures and delays announced by Fairfax County Government

  2. Closures

    • Common Ground will close if Fairfax County Government closes.

    • If Fairfax County County Government is open, we will make an operating decision based on multiple factors including but not limited to: OPM, FCPS, FCPA, the status of the roads in Reston, and the status of our parking lot.

  3. Early Dismissals

    • If Fairfax County Government or Office of Personnel Management (OPM) announces early dismissals, we will close early to ensure staff and families can travel home safely.

    • We may also decide to close early if we believe the timing of the weather would make it dangerous for our staff to go home.

  4. Delayed Openings and Operational Adjustments

    • We strive to open whenever possible, provided it is safe to do so for staff and families.

    • In the event of a delayed opening, we will notify families of the adjusted opening time.

  5. Parental Responsibility

    • Parents and guardians are encouraged to stay informed about local weather conditions and plan for the possibility of closures, delays, or early dismissals.

    • Families should have alternative childcare plans in case of inclement weather.

  6. Communication

    • Decisions will be communicated promptly through Brightwheel and our website.

    • Please ensure your contact information is up-to-date to receive timely notifications.

Thank you for your understanding and cooperation in helping us prioritize safety during inclement weather.
