1796-01 Big Questions for Young Minds: Extending Children’s Thinking (3.0 Hours) *In-person training/space is limited*

Questions are powerful tools, but knowing how and when to ask high-level questions promoting critical thinking can be challenging for even the most seasoned educators. In this 3-hour course, we will review and examine the ideas presented in Big Questions for Young Minds: Extending Children’s Thinking by Janis Strasser & Lisa Mufson Bresson. We will review Bloom’s Taxonomy(s), define “high-level questions,” review the benefits of asking children these kinds of questions and explore techniques and considerations to keep in mind as you “Step Up Your Questioning Techniques.” We will reflect on how high-level questions can be used throughout various parts of the day and various areas of interest in the classroom. Finally, we will practice generating high-level questions and consider how to incorporate more high-level questions into our interactions with our students.
