Responsive Empathy: Building Emotional Awareness in Preschoolers (1.0 hour)
Preschoolers, like adults, have varied and complex emotions and deserve responsive empathy, no matter what they may be feeling. Unlike adults, children need caregiver support to learn how to recognize and name their own emotions, recognize the feelings of others, and learn safe and socially appropriate ways of navigating their emotions. In this session, we will explore the benefits of creating an emotionally safe classroom, practice empathy-based responses based on various scenarios, and share techniques and activities to build emotional awareness.
