Responsive Empathy: Building Emotional Awareness in Young Children - Infants (1.0 hour)
Children, like adults, have varied and complex emotions and deserve responsive empathy, regardless of their feelings. Unlike adults, children need caregiver support to learn how to recognize and name their own emotions, recognize the feelings of others, and learn safe and socially appropriate ways of navigating their emotions. In this session, we will explore the benefits of creating an emotionally safe classroom, practice empathy-based responses based on various scenarios, and share techniques and activities to build emotional awareness that can be used in the classroom.
